Carjacking victim spends night taking refuge in church after terrifying ordeal

A Harare taxi driver is recovering from a horrific ordeal after being carjacked at gunpoint by armed robbers who robbed him of his vehicle and money, leaving him tied up on the side of the road.

Robert Mungure from Kuwadzana picked up two men who claimed they needed a ride to Long Chen Mall. Instead, they held him at gunpoint and knife point, tied his hands and legs with shoe laces, beat him with a pistol, and robbed him of $40 and his cellphone.

The terrified taxi driver somehow managed to untie himself and sought refuge at a nearby Apostolic church, where he spent the night. Police later found his trashed vehicle in Epworth suburb without wheels.

“I am yet to recover from the trauma I went through,” said Robert, who said he couldn’t even pray at the church despite finding safety there.
