A 53-year-old woman from Chitungwiza has been charged with murdering her husband after they had an argument over the relish she had cooked for dinner.
Nozizwe Mpengesi and her husband Wilson Muchimwe got into a fight when he came home drunk and complained that she had cooked vegetables instead of meat to go with the meal.
During the altercation, Mpengesi allegedly pushed Muchimwe and he fell, hitting his head on the concrete floor. Muchimwe began bleeding from his forehead and Mpengesi took him to the police station, lying that he had been assaulted by unknown people at a bar.
However, investigations revealed that Mpengesi had taken all of Muchimwe’s clothes and shoes and gave them to her sister, indicating she was trying to hide evidence of her involvement.
The court heard that Mpengesi then led detectives to the scene and demonstrated how she committed the offence. She also recovered Muchimwe’s shoes and jacket. Muchimwe’s body remains at the hospital mortuary awaiting a post-mortem examination.
Mpengesi was remanded in custody and told to apply for bail at the High Court, as she faces a murder charge.
