Veteran praise singer Chief Shumba Hwenje has been unceremoniously dumped by ZANU PF in favour of Mambo Dhuterere to provide the sound track for Emmerson Mnangagwa’s election campaign.

Hwenje, known for his 2018 hit “ED Pfee”, was preparing his new album “Special Branch” aimed at being the official party campaign music. But ZANU PF pulled the rug from under his feet at the last moment, choosing Mambo Dhuterere instead.

Mambo Dhuterere’s still unreleased songs praising Mnangagwa will now feature widely during the campaign. They include a duet with musician-turned-politician Sandra Ndebele who is running for office under ZANU PF’s ticket.

Music critics have slammed the opportunistic scramble for ZANU PF money. Veteran music reviewer Fred Zindi says there is more cash to be made politically than through music careers.

Mambo Dhuterere has previous form, auctioning his last album for a hefty US$30,000 which was snapped up by ZANU PF politicians.
