Murder suspect Tafadzwa Shamba demonstrates how he killed seven-year-old Tapiwa Makore during an inspection in loco at Makore Village under Chief Mangwende in Murehwa.

The parents of 7-year-old Tapiwa Makore Jr – brutally murdered in a ritual killing – have fled their village to escape the torment of relatives involved in the horrifying crime.

Tapiwa’s father Munyaradzi said his family has relocated from Nyamutumbu Village to Hatfield, Harare due to the tensions with family members following his son’s grisly murder.

“The environment was no longer good for my family, especially because the murder was committed by a relative,” he said. “The place also kept on reminding me of the gruesome murder of my son.”

Tapiwa’s mother Linda Munyori said she will never forgive her son’s sick killers – not even the death penalty handed down will appease her.

“I wish they could feel the physical pain my son felt before he died,” she said tearfully. “There is no longer unity within the family because some relatives still think Tapiwa Sr is innocent.”

The horror of Tapiwa’s final hours – kidnapped and butchered for ritual sacrifice – has left his parents haunted, driving them from their village to escape the daily reminders of their son’s unspeakable suffering.

The distance from Murehwa to Harare, they hope, will allow them to rebuild their shattered lives and find some closure from their ordeal. But for Tapiwa’s parents, relief from the trauma of losing their child in such a brutal, barbaric way may never come.
