In a devastating incident yesterday afternoon, a Toyota Axio vehicle veered off the road and ploughed into a group of roadside vendors selling “Mazhanje” (sugar plum / loquat fruit) at Gwenhoro turn off in Shurugwi.
Reports suggest that at least four vendors have tragically lost their lives, while several others have sustained injuries.
Upon arriving at the scene, a State media reporter witnessed the diligent efforts of the police, who were swiftly transporting the injured vendors to Shurugwi District Hospital for urgent medical attention.
A tense atmosphere prevailed as members of the public expressed their anger towards the suspected driver of the Toyota Axio. Police intervened swiftly, ensuring his safety by whisking him away from the scene, shielding him from the public’s fury.
