Actor attacked with a hoe on the head after attempting to stop neighbour from bashing a maid

Renowned Zimbabwean actor Charles “Chale” Munyongani is currently hospitalized after a violent confrontation with his neighbour Gabriel Katsande on Saturday.

According to colleague and veteran actress Patience Muza, Munyongani was attacked with a hoe by Katsande after confronting him for assaulting a maid in the neighbourhood. Munyongani suffered serious injuries to his head and leg trying to defend the maid.

Munyongani underwent emergency surgery on Monday to address head injuries sustained from multiple blows with the hoe. His leg was also fractured during the attack and will require further surgery.

Katsande fled the scene and remains at large as police investigate.

Muza is asking the public for donations to cover Munyongani’s growing medical bills. She said the successful operation on his head was a relief but more funds are needed for continued treatment, medication, x-rays and the leg surgery.

“He was in a bad situation, but he seems to be better after a successful operation on his head on Monday.

“We now need some money to have his leg operated on as well. Every donation, no matter how small, will help Chale get the treatment he needs.

“Your support means the world to us and we can’t thank you enough. We still need some money for X-rays, surgery, food and medicines,” said Muza.

Munyongani’s hospitalization comes after he selflessly tried to protect a woman facing abuse.
