In a recent court appearance before Harare magistrate Ruth Moyo, a 22-year-old woman from Mbare Block 14, Chipo Neruwana, was charged with unlawful possession of medical drugs. She was granted bail in the amount of US$300.

The charges stem from an incident last year on October 25 when detectives from the CID Drugs and Narcotics Unit received information regarding Neruwana’s possession of prescription preparatory drugs. Promptly acting on this tip-off, the detectives initiated an investigation, leading to the discovery of one container of benzathine benzylpenicillin injection and 19 containers of suxamethonium chloride, each containing 50mg.

The State prosecutor, Belinda Chimuka, highlighted that the suspect did not possess the necessary authorization or prescription for these drugs, thus constituting an offence.
