5 people in serious trouble after bashing a suspected thief to death

A fatal incident of mob justice unfolded in Rugare, Harare, resulting in the death of a suspected thief who succumbed to injuries sustained during the attack. The number of individuals facing murder charges in connection with the incident has now risen to five, with the recent arrest of a new suspect, 44-year-old Bwanoos Matoto, who allegedly participated in assaulting the victim.

According to reports, Matoto accused the victim of stealing his white church garments and subsequently joined the mob in assaulting the alleged thief. Four other suspects, Gift Kamupira (49), Sirivako Davson Kagwa (69), Stephen Albert Phiri (65), and Barabara Kumodzi (40), had already been remanded in custody after being charged with the murder of the suspected thief. The motive behind the attack was the alleged theft of maize cobs from a maize field owned by one of the individuals involved.

The accused individuals reportedly used various weapons to assault the victim, resulting in fatal injuries and his subsequent death. All five suspects remain in custody, awaiting trial for their alleged involvement in the incident.
