Prison officer sentenced to 7 years in jail for burglary spree at new government offices

A PRISON officer has been jailed seven years in prison after a burglary spree at the New Government offices including the Attorney General’s office where he stole computers and other electricals.

In a statement, the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ) the accused Kwandokuhle Ndethi, who is employed by the Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services was found guilty of unlawful entry.

“He broke into several offices at the New Government Complex and stole several HP brand computer components, including monitors, CPUs, printers and a power cable.

Count 1 On the 27th of March 2024, the accused broke into the Attorney General’s office at New Government Complex and stole an HP monitor, and 2 printers from the Attorney General’s office,” said the NPAZ.

“Count 2,3,5 and 7 The accused person broke into the offices of the Ministry of Higher and Tertiary Education at New Government Complex on the 1st, 3rd and 5th of April 2024 and stole a various assortment of HP computers and printers.

“Count 4 and 6 The accused person also broke into the offices of the Ministry of Finance and Investment Promotion on the 2nd of April 2024 and stole an assortment of HP computers and printers.”

The NPAZ said the total value of the property stolen was USD8 350 and everything was recovered.

Ndethi was sentenced to seven years in prison of which two were suspended and so he will serve five years.
