Zvishavane stepfather sentenced to 15 years for raping 12-year-old stepdaughter
In a disturbing case of betrayal and abuse, a 32-year-old man from Zvishavane has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for raping his 12-year-old stepdaughter.
According to the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe, the incident occurred in March 2024, while the child’s mother was away. The state proved that the accused man, taking advantage of the vulnerable situation, lifted the young girl from the floor where she was sleeping with her two sisters, and placed her on his bed. He then proceeded to fondle her breasts before raping her.
The harrowing ordeal came to light a few days later when the victim confided in her younger sister, who then informed their grandmother. A police report was promptly filed, leading to the arrest of the perpetrator.
The 15-year sentence handed down by the Gweru Magistrates’ Court reflects the gravity of the offense and the urgent need to protect vulnerable members of society from such predatory behaviour.
