Bindura – A bitter family dispute over property has tragically ended in death, leaving a community reeling and two brothers facing murder charges. John Mukono (31) and Shadreck Mukono (24), residents of Seke, appeared before Bindura Magistrate Court on July 8, 2024, accused of the brutal assault of Stanley Gwaze, which ultimately led to his death.

The court heard a harrowing account of the events that unfolded on July 6, 2024, at Gwaze’s residence in Glendale. The Mukono brothers, driven by a desire to retrieve their estranged sister’s belongings from the matrimonial home she shared with the deceased, arrived at Gwaze’s doorstep. The atmosphere was already tense, as attempts to amicably resolve the property dispute had failed.

A heated argument erupted between the brothers and Gwaze, quickly escalating into a violent confrontation. The brothers, fueled by anger and frustration, allegedly assaulted Gwaze, leaving him with serious injuries.

An assault report was filed at ZRP Glendale, and Gwaze was taken to Concession Hospital for treatment. He was discharged, seemingly recovering from the attack. However, his condition took a turn for the worse the following day, and he was rushed to Bindura Provincial Hospital. Despite receiving medical attention, Gwaze succumbed to his injuries on July 8, 2024.

The accused brothers, John and Shadreck Mukono, were remanded out of custody until their next court appearance on August 20, 2024. The weight of the accusations hangs heavy over them, as they face the possibility of a life behind bars.
