Harare – A Glen Norah woman is in police custody after allegedly striking her husband on the head with a pot during a domestic dispute, which resulted in his death. The incident, reportedly triggered by accusations of infidelity, has left the community in shock and mourning.

Sandra Ndoyiwa, 31, is accused of murdering her husband, Nixon Jemedze, 50.

The case was reported to the police by the deceased’s younger brother, Solomon Jemedze, 43, who resides in Madokero Estate, Harare.

Harare Provincial Police Spokesperson, Inspector Luckmore Chakanza, confirmed the incident, stating that it occurred in the early hours of last Friday.

“The incident occurred on the 7th of this month at approximately 0300hrs, when Sandra Ndoyiwa (31) was at home with her husband (Nixon Jemedze). They began arguing over allegations of infidelity. Sandra then struck her husband on the back of the head and forehead once each with a small, black Kango pot, causing severe injuries and deep wounds,” Insp Chakanza explained.

According to Insp Chakanza, Nixon was taken to Chamas Private Hospital in Glen Norah on the same day at around 10:00 am, where he was admitted. However, his condition deteriorated, and he passed away the following day, on the 8th of March.

“Police officers visited the scene of the crime, along with a team from the Criminal Investigations Department Homicide, which led to Sandra’s arrest,” Insp Chakanza said.

Insp Chakanza confirmed that the pot allegedly used in the commission of the crime is in police custody and will be presented as evidence in court.

Nixon’s body has been transported to the Sally Mugabe Central Hospital mortuary for a post-mortem examination.

Insp Chakanza urged members of the public to refrain from resorting to violence in domestic disputes, highlighting the tragic consequences that often result.

“We encourage the public to desist from domestic violence because it often ends in murder, leaving children orphaned when the mother is arrested and the father has lost his life. It is important that when people have disagreements at home, they seek advice from police officers who offer mediation services, church elders, or other respected community leaders, rather than resorting to fighting, because the long arm of the law will not spare them,” he said.
