HARARE – A family of eleven, residing in the vicinity of Charles Prince Airport in Mt Hampden, Harare, has made startling claims of persistent torment by malevolent spirits and goblins, painting a picture of a life steeped in fear and supernatural disturbances.

The Mambo family, originally hailing from Guruve in Mashonaland Central province, consists of Cathrine Mambo, a 52-year-old mother, and her nine children. They say they are currently grappling with an onslaught of paranormal problems that have disrupted their lives and left them feeling helpless.

Faced with challenges they feel unable to overcome on their own, the Mambo family has turned to spiritual healers for assistance, desperately seeking intervention to alleviate their suffering.

According to Mai Mambo, the relentless presence of malevolent spirits and the physical attacks by goblins, coupled with a series of other inexplicable events, ultimately led to the family’s patriarch abandoning them, leaving her and her children to confront these terrifying forces alone. The father’s current location remains unknown, adding to the family’s distress and uncertainty.

Mai Mambo recounted the beginning of their ordeal, stating, “I was happily married to my husband, and we built our home in Mambo Chitsungo, Mbire, in Guruve, in the Mashonaland Central province. The problems started raining down like water when we began to be attacked by goblins, who would speak when we called for help. I was burned by an unknown fire, and my leg was injured. One of my children was also burned by a fire that started on its own and died. She was young.” The loss of her young daughter in such a mysterious and tragic manner continues to haunt the family.

Adding to their catalogue of misfortune, Mai Mambo further revealed that one of her sons suffered severe burns from a fire that inexplicably erupted, leaving him with permanent disabilities. The unexplained nature of the fire has only deepened the family’s sense of vulnerability and fear.

Adding another layer of bizarre and unsettling occurrences, one of the Mambo daughters reportedly experiences phantom pregnancies, a condition where she becomes pregnant only for the pregnancy to vanish without any medical explanation, leaving no physical evidence behind.

Gracious Matiko (24), one of the daughters, corroborated the unsettling story of her disappearing pregnancies, stating, “I become pregnant, and it just disappears. I don’t have any children, and I’m now afraid of even becoming pregnant. Relationships don’t last, and we all have bad luck as a family; nothing tangible can be achieved. Father ran away from the family because of these problems. We don’t know where he is. We are now living in a house where we are being cared for in Mt Hampden.” Gracious’s account underscores the pervasive sense of hopelessness and despair that has gripped the family.

Shadreck Matiko (26), one of the sons, provided a chilling account of the goblins’ alleged physical assaults, claiming that the malevolent entities derive pleasure from inflicting pain and suffering upon the family. He stated that hardly a week goes by without someone in the family being subjected to a goblin attack.

“The goblins have parties, taking turns to beat us. We have no rest. As for me, I have been beaten and kicked by goblins. We are very intelligent at school, but we are disturbed by these goblin attacks. We ended up running away from home and came to live here in Harare, being cared for by kind-hearted people,” Shadreck Matiko explained, highlighting the devastating impact these alleged attacks have had on their education and overall well-being.

Glory Matiko (22), another daughter, corroborated her brother’s claims, confirming the frequent attacks by goblins on herself and other family members. She stated that these assaults have become a disturbingly normal part of their lives, a constant reminder of the supernatural forces they believe are arrayed against them.

“Besides being beaten by goblins, which has caused us great suffering, we have a child in our family who died after being burned by a fire whose origin we do not know. We just saw her at the door of the house, burned. We did not see the fire that burned her, but the body showed burns. My 11-year-old sister was bitten by a crocodile in June last year in the Hunyani River, at Mambo Chitsungo, in Mbire. My mother fought with the crocodile until she defeated it, and it ran away,” Glory Matiko recounted, adding another layer of tragedy to the family’s already burdened existence. The sister who was bitten, whose name is being withheld due to her age, said she was repeatedly submerged in the water by the crocodile before her mother bravely intervened.

Despite the overwhelming challenges and the palpable sense of fear that permeates their lives, the father’s whereabouts remain unknown, leaving the Mambo family to navigate their extraordinary circumstances without his support.

Prophet Elijah of the Mercy World Mt Gilead church, where the family is currently seeking spiritual guidance and assistance, offered his perspective on the situation, stating, “The problem of this family has to do with relatives. All these things will end because of the power of God, through their son, Jesus Christ. We want all these things to end, and we want to give them money to start businesses as a family, and the young children to go back to school.”
