In a heart-wrenching account of alleged supernatural affliction, a family residing in the Overspill, in Epworth area is appealing for assistance, claiming they are victims of relentless torment by goblins, indiscriminate deaths, inexplicable marital woes, and job losses.
The Nota family, originally hailing from Boma District, Malawi, say they are living in constant fear. They believe malevolent spirits are not only sexually abusing their daughters and daughters-in-law but are also physically assaulting them and causing a series of untimely deaths within their lineage.
The family’s plight is further compounded by a string of broken marriages, unexplained dismissals from employment, and a pervasive sense of dread that has gripped their lives.
Mrs Agnes Nota (54), a daughter in the family, painted a grim picture of their present circumstances. “We were born as twelve, but now only seven of us are left. We are dying like ants; people just get sick for a short time and then die. Some die in quick succession. This problem has spread to our sons-in-law and grandchildren, leading us to suspect witchcraft within the family,” she lamented.
According to Mrs Nota, the family has been experiencing a disproportionate number of deaths since 2019, with six members passing away around the same time each year.
“Our parents left behind 52 grandchildren, but we fear that they might all die due to the way people are dying,” she added, her voice laced with despair.
Adding to their woes, the family claims their daughters are either being divorced or widowed at an alarming rate, while their sons are also facing marital breakdowns. “Wherever we go, people say we have bad luck in the family, and it’s also caused by troublesome goblins,” Mrs Nota explained.
The origins of the family’s misfortunes can be traced back to the passing of their parents. Mr Fraction Nota, who was the head of the family, passed away in the year 2000, and his wife, Mrs Menalla Pangeti Nota, passed away in 2019. Since then, the family says their troubles have multiplied.
Mr Friday Nota (55), the fourth child in the family, corroborated his sister’s account, emphasising the urgent need for intervention. “When our father’s body was buried, we saw an old Jewish coin thrown at the grave. No one in the family handles money. We are beaten by goblins and abandoned by our wives, and our daughters are abandoned by their husbands. On top of that, we are dying indiscriminately,” he said.
The family says they have no other relatives in Zimbabwe, as their parents migrated from Boma District, Malawi.
“We, the elders, are now being targeted by witchcraft by the younger ones. If we want to travel, we start fighting each other because some say they don’t want to travel,” Mr Nota added, highlighting the internal strife that has further fragmented the family.
The family’s troubles extend beyond unexplained deaths and marital problems. They also claim to be victims of physical assaults by unseen entities.
“Our daughters are being made wives during the day or night by things we cannot see, including our daughters-in-law, who end up running away from home,” Mrs Agnes Nota revealed, adding a disturbing dimension to their ordeal.
According to the family, these invisible beings, or goblins, are not only sexually abusing the women but are also physically harming them.
“People in the family are also losing jobs and being unfairly dismissed,” Mrs Nota further stated, suggesting a pattern of misfortune that has befallen the family.
Adding to the family’s distress, Mrs Loveness Nota (41) shared her harrowing experience of repeated marital failures. “We have seen suffering and been divorced by men. I, for example, have had five husbands, and I was divorced. Among these men, three have died, and two are still alive. Men are now afraid to court us. Many daughters are being widowed, and it is said that there are goblins in the home. We are beaten by invisible beings, we don’t get jobs, we are sexually abused by us and men we cannot see, so we also need help,” she said, her voice filled with anguish.
The family also reports an unusually high number of car accidents, further contributing to their sense of being cursed.
The family’s fears were heightened three weeks ago when they discovered a bizarre scene at their father’s grave. “We saw strange things at our father’s grave when a pot with a sword inside and coloured cloths was placed on top of it,” Mrs Nota revealed, describing the unsettling discovery.
The family interprets this incident as a sign of dark forces at play, further fueling their belief that they are victims of witchcraft.
Among those who have died, the family claims one was a victim of murder. “My sister, Patrick Nota, was murdered in 2006 in Ruwa,” Mrs Agnes Nota said.
Faced with what they believe is a supernatural onslaught, the Nota family is desperately seeking help from traditional healers, religious leaders, and anyone who can offer guidance and protection. They hope that by sharing their story, they can find a solution to their troubles and break the cycle of misfortune that has plagued their family for far too long.
