HARARE – Simbarashe Kaseke and Wellington Ncube, the two men allegedly implicated by Robert Mugabe Jr as being drug suppliers, have been denied bail after spending a week in police custody. The pair appeared before Harare magistrate Lisa Mutendereki yesterday.
Magistrate Mutendereki ruled that Kaseke and Ncube are not suitable candidates for bail. The court cited the seriousness of the offence they are facing and the potential flight risk they pose as the primary reasons for the denial.
The court heard that the arrests stemmed from an operation conducted by detectives from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Drugs on October 1st. Acting on information received, the detectives targeted a property located at Number 38 Boscobel Drive, Highlands, Harare, where drug peddling was allegedly taking place.
Upon arrival at the scene, officers searched Wellington Ncube. The search revealed seven sachets of “Indo Hybrid” dagga (cannabis) and two pink Ecstasy pills concealed in his pockets.
When questioned about the source of the drugs, Ncube allegedly implicated Simbarashe Kaseke, identifying him as his employer and the owner of the illicit substances.
Simbarashe Kaseke was subsequently located within the house. A search was conducted on his person, leading to the discovery of 15 transparent sachets of Indo Hybrid dagga and four pink Ecstasy pills. These items were seized from his back pockets.
The seized dagga was weighed in the presence of both Kaseke and Ncube. The total weight was approximately 26 grams, with an estimated street value of US$380.
Mandirasa Chigumira is prosecuting the case. The denial of bail marks a significant step in the legal proceedings against Kaseke and Ncube, who now remain in custody pending further investigation and trial. The case continues.
