HARARE – A 17-year-old woman from Mabvuku has endured a terrifying ordeal after being abducted and sexually assaulted in movie-style. Meanwhile, in a separate case, a 28-year-old man from Marange is facing charges of raping his 10-year-old daughter.
In the Mabvuku incident, the young woman was walking home on Tuesday at approximately 11am after having her mobile phone repaired. As she made her way along the road, an unregistered pickup truck approached her from behind, stopping abruptly nearby.
According to reports, three men were in the vehicle. One of them jumped out, brandishing a knife. He forcibly dragged the woman into the truck, threatening her to keep her silent.
The vehicle then sped off to a secluded location near the new stands in Mabvuku. Upon arrival, one of the men led her into the bushes, while another returned to the truck to retrieve a rope.
The men then tied her hands before fleeing the scene, leaving her alone and vulnerable. During this period, the woman was subjected to sexual violence.
Fortunately, the woman was later discovered by three passersby who came to her aid. They untied her and directed her towards her home.
The incident was reported to ZRP Mabvuku under RRB 6608246. While police were not immediately available for comment, sources have confirmed the report. The victim has since been referred to Parirenyatwa Hospital for a thorough medical examination.
In a separate and equally disturbing case, a 28-year-old man from Marange has appeared in court, accused of raping his 10-year-old daughter. The man, whose name is being withheld to protect the identity of the victim, resides in Mariwo Village under Chief Marange. He appeared before Magistrate Sekai Chiundura at the Mutare Magistrate Courts, facing charges of rape as defined in Section 65 (1) as Read with Section 64 (1) of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act, Chapter 9:23.
Tom Nyatsuro is prosecuting the case.
According to the prosecution, the incident occurred on August 8 at around 2300 hours at their home. The prosecutor detailed the alleged events, stating, “On August 8 and at around 2300 hours at their home, the father was seated on the clay soil made bench around the kitchen hut and he was in the company of the complainant. He then lured her by pretending to teach her how to operate a mobile phone. He then raped her afterwards. He threatened to kill the complainant if she informed anyone about the case.”
Nyatsuro further stated that the man allegedly repeated this pattern of abuse over the next three days, using the same tactic of luring his daughter with his mobile phone before raping her.
The prosecution noted that the complainant did not initially disclose the abuse to anyone. “However, on September 15 the complainant proceeded to a nearby village where her mother resides and she informed her about the abuse. The next day, the mother escorted the complainant to ZRP Marange where they reported the case to the police and they were further referred to Victorio Chitepo Provincial Hospital for medical examination,” Nyatsuro explained.
The case is currently undergoing trial before the courts. The accused has denied the rape charges.
