CHIREDZI – Police are urgently seeking information that will lead to the arrest of Kainos Masekesa (32), suspected of brutally murdering his wife, Sithembile Masaiti, in a fit of rage fuelled by allegations of infidelity. The horrific incident took place at Makey compound in Mkwasine, Chiredzi, last Thursday.
Masvingo Police Spokesperson, Inspector Kudakwashe Dhewa, confirmed the tragic details to Masvingo Mirror, stating that the police are treating the case with the utmost seriousness.
The sequence of events leading to Masaiti’s death began with a domestic dispute, reportedly sparked by Masekesa’s suspicions of his wife’s infidelity. According to initial reports, the argument escalated rapidly, with Masekesa allegedly attacking Masaiti with extreme violence.
He is accused of using his fists, sticks, and a wooden hoe handle to repeatedly strike his wife until she fell unconscious. Masekesa then allegedly left her in that state, abandoning her to seek solace at a nearby bar.
Upon returning home at approximately 3am, Masekesa discovered that Masaiti had succumbed to her injuries and was dead. In a shocking move, he allegedly locked the house and fled, leaving his wife’s body inside.
The alarm was raised by a neighbour who overheard the violent altercation and promptly alerted the police. Officers arrived at the scene to find Masaiti’s lifeless body. A full-scale manhunt has now been launched to apprehend Masekesa and bring him to face charges for the brutal crime.
Meanwhile, in Bulawayo, a man appeared in court facing domestic violence charges after allegedly assaulting his wife for refusing to engage in conjugal relations.
Talkmore Magigwana (37) of Hookthorn Street, Thorngroove, appeared before magistrate Patience Madondo at the Bulawayo magistrates’ courts. He was granted US$50 bail, and the matter was remanded to 15 December, pending a medical report.
Prosecutor Methuli Ncube informed the court that on 29 November, at the couple’s residence, Magigwana requested “quality time” from his wife. However, she explained that their three-year-old son was still awake.
According to the State, Magigwana became suspicious and accused his wife of infidelity simply because she declined his advances. A misunderstanding ensued, and Magigwana allegedly assaulted her with fists all over her body.
The shaken wife reported the incident to Mzilikazi Police Station and was referred to hospital for medical examination. Magigwana was subsequently arrested.
Neighbours commented that a little charm, patience, and perhaps even cologne might have yielded a different outcome. Instead, Magigwana chose violence over romance and found himself in court rather than the bedroom.
