MANICALAND – Tragedy has struck Chishakwe Village, under Chief Zimunya, as a 22-year-old self-proclaimed prophet, Takudzwa Muchadya, reportedly took his own life following a painful rejection by his girlfriend. The incident has left the village in mourning and highlighted the importance of seeking help during times of emotional distress.
The devastating event unfolded last week at the Kashiri homestead in Chishakwe village, where Muchadya was visiting his uncle, Mr Obey Matope. According to Acting Manicaland provincial police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Wiseman Chinyoka, Muchadya struggled to cope with the end of the relationship.
It is understood that Muchadya had met his girlfriend during his stay in the area and they had begun a relationship. However, their romance took a turn when the young woman decided to leave for Harare in October to pursue employment opportunities. This decision marked the end of their relationship, a reality that Muchadya found difficult to accept.
Assistant Inspector Chinyoka explained that Muchadya made several attempts to persuade his girlfriend to reconsider her decision and rekindle their relationship, but his efforts proved futile. “Towards the end of November, the girlfriend returned to her rural home, and Muchadya again tried to persuade her to rekindle the relationship, but she flatly refused. As a result of her unyielding stance, Muchadya took his own life,” said Assistant Inspector Chinyoka.
The young man’s body was discovered hanging from a Muzhanje tree branch at the Kashiri homestead. The matter was promptly reported to ZRP Chitakatira Base, and Muchadya’s body was transported to Victoria Chitepo Provincial Hospital mortuary for a post-mortem examination.
In the wake of this tragic loss, police are urging members of the public to seek counselling and share their problems with others, rather than resorting to drastic measures. Police emphasise that there are resources available to help individuals cope with emotional distress and overcome difficult situations.
