Horror as Glen Norah woman stabs kombi driver multiple times to death then flees

Harare – A dark cloud hangs over Glen Norah after a kombi driver was brutally stabbed to death, allegedly by his wife, in the early hours of Christmas morning. The horrific incident, triggered by a domestic dispute over a delayed supper, has left the community reeling and police launching a manhunt for the suspect.

The victim, identified as Levy Mautsa, a local kombi driver, died from multiple knife wounds sustained during a violent confrontation that began late on Christmas Eve. His wife, whose name is being withheld by authorities as investigations continue, is currently on the run.

According to Harare provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Luckmore Chakanza, the tragic sequence of events unfolded after Mautsa became agitated that supper was not yet prepared.

“Circumstances indicate that a domestic dispute arose between the deceased and his wife over the late preparation of supper. It is alleged that Mautsa assaulted her with open hands and damaged her cellphone,” Inspector Chakanza explained.

The initial altercation, which began inside the couple’s residence, soon spilled out into the yard. A neighbour, Blessing Chengeti, was roused from his sleep around midnight as the commotion escalated near his door. He intervened, managing to temporarily diffuse the situation and the couple retreated back into their room.

However, the brief respite was shattered several hours later when the violence erupted again, this time with fatal consequences.

Inspector Chakanza provided a chilling account of what followed: “Later, the wife called a workmate, indicating that she had attacked Mautsa.”

In a panicked and distressed phone call, the wife confessed to stabbing her husband three times with a kitchen knife. She pleaded with her workmate to go and check on Mautsa before fleeing the scene, disappearing into the night.

Responding to the call, police officers rushed to the scene, where they made the grim discovery of Mautsa’s lifeless body. He had suffered deep and fatal cuts to his left shoulder, neck, and back.

A kitchen knife, believed to be the murder weapon, was recovered from the garden just outside the house, providing a crucial piece of evidence in the ongoing investigation.

“The body was transported to Sally Mugabe Central Hospital mortuary, where it awaits a post-mortem examination,” Inspector Chakanza confirmed. The post-mortem is expected to provide further details about the extent of Mautsa’s injuries and confirm the precise cause of death.

As the investigation intensifies, police are appealing to members of the public for any information that could assist in locating and apprehending the suspect. They are urging anyone who may have seen or heard anything relevant to come forward and assist with their enquiries.

The tragic death of Levy Mautsa has cast a pall over the festive season in Glen Norah, leaving friends, family, and neighbours grappling with shock and grief. The police are urging anyone experiencing domestic difficulties to seek help and support, emphasising that violence is never the answer.
