Former Highlanders midfielder and FC Platinum captain Brian Banda and 2 others die in horror accident

Heartbreak has gripped the Zimbabwean football fraternity following the tragic death of former Highlanders FC midfield maestro Brian “BB” Banda, who was killed in a horrific traffic accident earlier today. The accident, which occurred along the Zvishavane–Filabusi Highway, also claimed the lives of two other individuals.

Banda, aged 29, was travelling on the Zvishavane-Filabusi road when the tragedy occurred. He was rushed to a nearby hospital, but sadly succumbed to his injuries upon arrival.

FC Platinum confirmed the devastating news in an official statement, revealing that Banda lost his life at the scene of the crash. “We are deeply saddened to share the news of Brian Banda’s passing, which occurred today, June 29, 2025, in a car accident on the Zvishavane-Bulawayo road,” the statement read. “Tragically, he lost his life at the scene, and FC Platinum has suffered the loss of a remarkable player. We kindly request that everyone respects his family’s privacy during this difficult time as they grieve. Go well Brian Banda.”

Banda was a key member of the FC Platinum squad that clinched the league title in 2022 and had also earned a number of caps for the national team.

Highlanders FC, also known as Bosso, expressed their profound sadness at the untimely passing of their former star player. “Highlanders Football Club is deeply saddened by the untimely passing on of Brian Banda,” the club stated. “We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, teammates, and the entire football fraternity during this time of profound loss.”

The club fondly remembered Banda’s contributions during his time with the Bulawayo giants. “Brian was a gifted midfielder who proudly wore the black-and-white jersey before continuing his professional journey with FC Platinum,” Bosso said in a moving tribute.

BB’s dazzling footwork and calm presence in the heart of midfield once illuminated Barbourfields Stadium, earning him admiration from fans and rivals alike. His performances in the black and white jersey cemented his place in the hearts of the Bosso faithful.

Gone too soon, BB’s legacy will undoubtedly live on in the hearts of the many fans who were captivated by his magic on the pitch. His impact extended beyond club level, having also represented his nation on several occasions.

Funeral arrangements for the late footballer are yet to be announced. The footballing community now comes together to remember a life cut short, and to offer support to Banda’s family and friends during this incredibly difficult time.
