The Zimbabwean football fraternity is in mourning following the tragic death of former TelOne FC player Frank Bushiri, who died in a horrific car accident this Sunday morning near Gweru. Bushiri was 35 years old.

The accident occurred on the Gweru-Harare Highway, just past Regina Mundi High School. According to preliminary reports, Bushiri was driving a Mazda Atenza when he lost control of the vehicle. The car veered off the road and crashed into a tree with such force that both the vehicle and the tree were split in two.

Eyewitnesses at a local truck stop who rushed to the scene described a gruesome sight. They reported that Bushiri’s head was severed from his body upon impact. They also noted that Bushiri was ejected from the vehicle, suggesting he was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident.

“We could not look twice at what we saw as it was extremely disturbing,” said one of the security guards from the truck stop, recounting the horrific scene.

Initial information suggests that Bushiri may have been involved in an earlier incident. Reports indicate he allegedly hit another vehicle from behind and sped off before losing control of his car. Police are still investigating the circumstances surrounding the accident and are expected to release further details as their investigations continue.

Residents in the area say the stretch of road near Regina Mundi High School is notorious for accidents, particularly due to speeding and dangerous overtaking.

Emergency services and police attended the scene. Images from the accident site show the catastrophic damage, with debris scattered across the road and the vehicle torn apart.

Bushiri had a lengthy career in Zimbabwean football. The midfielder had recently joined Division One side Sheasham FC in July of last year. He also played for TelOne, Shabanie Mine, Buffaloes, and Chapungu FC, and featured in the Warriors’ CHAN and COSAFA squads.

Sheasham FC is in mourning following the loss of their player. The club, along with the entire local football community, is reeling from the sudden and tragic news.

Funeral arrangements for the late footballer are yet to be confirmed.

At the time of his death, Bushiri was reportedly preparing for trials with Green Tigers FC. He is survived by his wife and four children.

The loss of Frank Bushiri is a devastating blow to Zimbabwean football. His contributions to the sport will be remembered, and his absence will be deeply felt by his teammates, friends, and family.
