The Ministry of Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Rural Development has provided over 1,000 bicycles to improve mobility for dip tank attendants in Zimbabwe’s Zvimba District.

The bicycles were formally presented to attendants at the Chinyabowa dip tank on Wednesday. The event was officiated by Lands Permanent Secretary Dr. John Basera.

Located in Zvimba, Mashonaland West Province, Chinyabowa is one of several dip tanks rebuilt or rehabilitated by the Zvimba Rural District Council. These facilities assist the government’s fight against diseases that threaten livestock, such as January disease. Many dip tanks were constructed or repaired using devolved funds, with community members contributing labour and building materials.

The bicycles will greatly help attendants move more easily between dip tank locations. This enhanced mobility strengthens their important frontline work monitoring animal health. As the first line of defence, attendants play a key role in the war against livestock illnesses.

Dr. Basera’s handover of over 1,000 bicycles is expected to considerably assist attendants in carrying out their vital duties of preventing disease outbreaks. It demonstrates the ministry’s commitment to serving rural communities and safeguarding Zimbabwe’s agricultural industries. The provision of transportation means attendants can respond rapidly to any disease concerns.
