Ammara Brown in hot soup with ‘Vakuru’ over what she said live on radio

Harare – Ammara Brown is set to be summoned before family elders to account for her public fallout with her sister, Chengeto, a dispute that has reportedly tarnished the family’s reputation. The revelation comes from Ammara’s aunt, Tatenda “Queen Mashie” Mashiringo, a mbira player and former backing vocalist for the late Andy Brown.

The rift between the sisters became public knowledge in 2023 when Ammara, during an interview on Star FM, admitted to a fractured relationship with Chengeto. “My relationship with Chengeto is non-existent,” she stated at the time. “I really wish I could open up more about it, but I wish her well in life. I loved that human being; I really did. It’s not bitter, but I am sad. It’s heart-breaking when I think about it. She was my everything.”

Three years on, the family is still grappling with the aftermath. Queen Mashie explained, “As a family, we have not forgotten about the fallout between Ammara and her younger sister. This issue could have been resolved at the family level, but it was blown out of proportion. I tried to intervene as the aunt, but Ammara was not forthcoming.”

According to Queen Mashie, Chengeto has attempted to apologise to her sister, but Ammara has yet to forgive her. She urged both sisters to reconcile and bring an end to their long-standing dispute. “It’s unhealthy to see family members fighting, and in this case, it’s about two sisters finding each other and trying to make peace,” she noted.

The cause of the feud, according to Queen Mashie, stems from allegations of infidelity. “I believe it had to do with a man. I was told that Chengeto cheated with Ammara’s partner, and she did not take it lightly. While Ammara was wronged, such matters are better resolved within the family. Bringing their conflict into the public domain was completely unnecessary.”

Queen Mashie emphasised the importance of resolving the issue privately to protect the family’s image. “It tarnishes the image of our family name, and that should never be tolerated. We all make mistakes, and it’s up to us to keep these matters private,” she said.

Meanwhile, Queen Mashie is preparing for a return to Zimbabwe in April for the launch of her sixth album, titled “Queen Mashie Rejuvenation.” She plans to use her visit to promote the family name with pride. “I will be home for three weeks, holding a series of radio and television interviews. It’s something I have planned, and nothing will stop us from fulfilling this call. I also look forward to reconnecting with my relatives, fans, and family,” she stated.

Reflecting on her previous visit to Zimbabwe in July, she said, “I still miss my motherland and will gladly meet my people when I return. I won’t come back empty-handed; I will do my best to give my fans something they will cherish.”

Queen Mashie has collaborated with Tapiwa “Maselo” Jera and Willis Wataffi as co-producers for her album. Having toured extensively across France, England, Germany, Switzerland, and other African countries, she is regarded as a creative genius with unparalleled experience. Her music ranks alongside Africa’s icons such as Angelique Kidjo, Brenda Fassie, Miriam Makeba, and Zimbabwe’s Chiwoniso Maraire. Queen Mashie, who has extensively toured Germany, Switzerland, the Netherlands, the UK, France, and Norway, now wants to be Zimbabwe’s arts ambassador overseas.
