Harare – Anymore Zvitsva, a Guruve murder suspect who made headlines over violent killings recently has been hit with five more criminal charges when he appeared before magistrate Vakayi Chikwekwe on Monday.

The State outlined five additional cases against him, expanding a prosecution that now spans 17 counts of murder, rape and attempted murder.

He now faces 14 murder counts.

Zvitsva (33), of Vheremu village under Chief Chipuriro allegedly executed a violent pattern of attacks carried out across Guruve, Raffingora, Mvurwi and surrounding areas between 2024 and late 2025.

In the latest development, prosecutors told the court that the allegations showed “a clear and disturbing pattern of extreme violence directed at defenceless victims in isolated rural settings.”

In one of the latest matters, the State alleged that on March 25, 2025, Zvitsva attacked 20-year-old Charity Chidhawu at her Nyakapupu homestead, where she was with her three-year-old son, Tendai Sahondo. The court heard that the accused forcibly marched the two into a nearby bushland within the Nyakapupu mountain area.

“The accused is alleged to have killed the mother using a machete and buried her in a shallow grave before turning on the minor child, whom he also killed and buried separately,” the prosecutor said.

Another newly presented case relates to the killing of Tariro Gotora, who was allegedly attacked on September 24, 2025, while herding cattle along the Hunyani River in Raffingora with a baby, Polite Mabhiza, strapped to her back.

According to the State, “the accused ordered the complainant to throw the infant into the river before dragging her into a nearby thicket, where he raped her, strangled her with a wire and later dumped her body into the river.”

The court further heard that on October 9, 2025, Providence Maruza was attacked while sleeping in her room at Ditwi Village, Chiwe Farm, Raffingora.

The State alleges the accused entered the room armed, threatened to kill her if she screamed and tied her hands and legs before dragging her towards a mountainous bushland.

“She was raped and later stabbed on the back and neck before the accused fled, leaving her seriously injured,” the prosecutor told the court.

Prosecutors also alleged that on October 27, 2025, Reginet Sango, a 62-year-old woman from Mudhindo Village in Guruve, was attacked while fetching water from a borehole in the early hours of the morning.

“The accused struck her with a machete, raped her once without protection and strangled her with wire before leaving her unconscious at the scene,” the court heard.

On the same date, the State alleges that Brian Ngoshi was attacked while walking home from Kachuta Business Centre.

“He was struck twice on the head with a machete, strangled with wire until he lost consciousness and robbed of his personal belongings,” the prosecutor said, adding that the complainant only survived after being discovered by a passer-by and rushed to hospital.

The State told the court that these latest allegations add to earlier cases already before it, including the murder of Jane Dube at Rangwani village, the killing of multiple victims in Nyakapupu, Mvurwi and Mubaiwa, and several sexual assaults and attempted murders.

“The sheer number of cases, the similarity in execution and the vulnerability of the victims demonstrate that the accused poses a serious danger to the public,” the prosecutor said.

Zvitsva was arrested on January 3, 2026, following a prolonged manhunt by the CID Homicide Unit. Police allege he evaded arrest by hiding in mountainous terrain after each alleged offence. He initially appeared before the court from a hospital bed, where he was remanded in custody as the State opposed bail.

He did not apply for bail during Monday’s proceedings and was advised to approach the High Court.

Chikwekwe remanded him in custody to a later date as investigations continue and prosecutors prepare to consolidate the expanding docket.
