Gospel musician Diva Mafunga, who died in a road accident near Gweru this week, has been remembered as a talented and humble artist whose death is a big loss to Zimbabwe’s music industry.

His colleagues described Mafunga as a creative genius and team player who left a legacy of professionalism and strong moral character. Musician Pastor Lawrence Haisa said Mafunga’s love for God was undeniable and that he was a good and reliable friend. Another artist, Amos Mahendere, said Mafunga was talented yet humble, and it would not be easy to fill the void left by his death.

The Office of the President and Cabinet has conveyed condolences to Mafunga’s family and the arts sector. A statement said Mafunga had performed at an event on Saturday before his car developed issues in Gweru. He returned on Monday to have it towed to Harare, but was involved in a fatal accident during the towing journey.

According to Mafunga’s brother Steady Mafunga, the musician’s body will be taken to their rural home in Mt Darwin on Thursday ahead of the burial on Friday. The late Mafunga was known for songs like “Endai Naizvozvo” and “Kubata KwaMwari”.
