Harare man in hiding after sh0cking killing spree: one dead, three injured
A horrifying incident unfolded in Lonchinvar as a 26-year-old man from Harare went on a rampage, claiming one life and leaving three others injured, including a police officer. The suspect, Saratoga Masere, has since gone into hiding, evading authorities.
The injured policeman and another victim are currently receiving medical care at Sally Mugabe Hospital after being viciously stabbed by the assailant wielding a knife. Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi, the national police spokesperson, confirmed the distressing incident.
According to Asst Comm Nyathi, the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) is urgently seeking information leading to the arrest of Saratoga Masere, who is wanted in connection with one murder case and three attempted murder cases. The violent spree took place on August 3, 2023, at a residence along Cypress Road in Lochinvar, Harare.
Details of the incident reveal that the suspect, in a fit of rage, attacked 73-year-old Lameck Nguwo Mazvunara with an iron bar before locking himself inside the dining room. Deno Mpofu aged 40 broke into the room intending to apprehend the suspect before he was stabbed in the chest with a knife. Deno Mpofu died on admission at Sally Mugabe Hospital.
Asst Comm Nyathi also disclosed that the suspect targeted Kim Mpofu, the son of the deceased victim, stabbing him as well. Additionally, a police officer who intervened to subdue the assailant also fell victim to a knife attack. Both victims are currently receiving treatment at a local hospital.
In a chilling revelation, it was discovered that the suspect had previously assaulted his own father, Count Munyaradzi Masere, aged 71, with a log on August 2, 2023. Count Munyaradzi Masere was subsequently admitted to Sally Mugabe Hospital for medical attention.
As the investigation continues, authorities are actively seeking any information that may lead to the arrest of Saratoga Masere. The motive behind the violent spree remains unclear, as the community grapples with the sh0ck and horror of the events that unfolded.
