Socialite Felistas Murata, popularly known as Mai Titi, had her fraud case postponed after the State revealed that the complainant, who recently gave birth, couldn’t attend court. The matter has been remanded until September 29.

Mai Titi faces charges of fraud and theft of trust property for failing to repay a US$10,000 debt and using a hired car as collateral.

In September 2022, she allegedly misrepresented to the complainant, Rachel Mhuka, that she needed US$10,000 for a business venture and offered her Mercedes Benz as surety. However, it was later discovered that the car did not belong to Mai Titi. Mhuka gave her US$10,000 based on this misrepresentation.

After retrieving the vehicle, Mai Titi provided Mhuka with another vehicle, an Audi, as surety. She later took it back, exchanging it for an invalid passport. Eventually, the complainant returned it to the socialite who gave her the Audi back.

In January of this year, the police seized the vehicle from Mhuka after discovering that it belonged to a car rental company named Else Event Car Hire. This action demonstrated a high degree of dishonesty on Mai Titi’s part.

In the second count, Mai Titi approached the car rental company, represented by director Liberty Vazhura, with the intention of hiring an Audi Q5 motor vehicle. However, she became evasive after obtaining the car, prompting Vazhura to report the matter to the police.
