Manhunt underway for suspect in fatal bar altercation over beer
A manhunt is currently underway for a man from Bulawayo who allegedly took the life of another man during a drinking session at a sports bar in the Emganwini suburb. The tragic incident unfolded when the suspect, identified as Majaha Ngwenya (30), became enraged after being denied a beer by the victim, Theophelous Mhlanga (29).
According to Bulawayo provincial spokesperson Inspector Abednico Ncube, the altercation escalated as Ngwenya forcefully dragged Mhlanga out of the bar and viciously struck him with an empty beer bottle, targeting his right eye. Despite the victim’s wife attempting to intervene and defuse the situation, her efforts proved unsuccessful.
The distressing incident occurred on Tuesday evening at approximately 9:20 pm. Mhlanga, who was bleeding profusely from his nose, was urgently transported to Mpilo Central Hospital for medical attention. Tragically, his injuries proved fatal, and he succumbed to them the following day.
Inspector Ncube has issued an appeal for any information that could assist in locating and apprehending the suspect, who is currently on the run.
