The Zimbabwean community is mourning after CCC activist Tapfumaneyi Masaya was found murdered this week. Masaya had been campaigning in Mabvuku ahead of upcoming by-elections when armed men forced him into a vehicle last Saturday.

After days of desperate searching and online pleas for help, Masaya’s body was sadly discovered and identified at Parirenyatwa Hospital morgue by his grieving family.

Police have launched an investigation. Local politician Denford Ngadziore expressed frustration with the slow response and accused authorities of staying silent too long, pointing out that Masaya’s body is still dressed in CCC T-Shirt for the Mabvuku Tafara campaign which he wore at the time of abduction.

“They (police) decided to keep quiet for 24 hours,” he told ZimLive.

Tragically, Masaya is merely the latest victim in a string of alleged political abductions. Last week, Harare MP Takudzwa Ngadziore livestreamed his own pursuit by security agents on Facebook before being tortured and dumped.

Rights group ZimRights condemned the inaction, saying the “unending impunity” must end. They demand justice for Masaya and an end to attacks against opposition members just exercising their basic freedoms.
