In a chilling act of violence, armed bandits have struck a devastating blow to a village in Nigeria’s Katsina state, leaving at least 25 people dead in a cold-blooded attack. The incursion occurred late on Sunday in the town of Yargoje, within the Kankara local government area.

According to Nasiru Babangida Mu’azu, the Katsina state commissioner for security affairs, dozens of gunmen on motorbikes stormed the community, shooting indiscriminately and looting shops before abducting an unspecified number of villagers.

Residents of Yargoje described a scene of chaos and horror, as the attackers showed no mercy, targeting both children and adults. One anonymous resident stated that the death toll is believed to be higher than the initial 25 reported, as more bodies are still being recovered from the surrounding areas.

This latest assault is another devastating blow to a region that has been plagued by the activities of armed gangs, referred to locally as “bandits.” Despite claims by the government and security forces that they are working to address the situation, these attacks have become almost routine, leaving authorities seemingly powerless to stop them.

The persistent nature of these incidents has sparked widespread concern and calls for the government to take decisive action to address the ongoing security crisis in the region. As the search for the missing villagers continues, the people of Katsina State are left to grapple with the aftermath of yet another brutal attack by the armed groups that have terrorized their communities.
