Gokwe – A 59-year-old man from Gokwe is in a critical condition at Gokwe South District Hospital after he and his wife were allegedly attacked by three neighbours using logs last Thursday. Agreement Sibanda is currently receiving intensive care, while his wife, Sarah Hlanganiso, is reported to be in a stable condition.

The incident occurred in Ngwegwe Village, under Chief Nemangwe in Gokwe. The couple were allegedly assaulted by three brothers identified as Moven Chemusonde (24), Malvin Chemusonde (19), and Misheba Chemusonde (18).

According to reports, the brothers arrived at Sibanda’s homestead at around 11 pm and demanded that he come out of the house. They allegedly threatened to set the house on fire if he refused to comply.

Midlands Police Spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko confirmed the incident, stating that the alleged assaulters have since been apprehended.

Upon exiting his house, Sibanda was allegedly set upon by the three brothers, who began assaulting him with logs all over his body. His wife, Sarah Hlanganiso, attempted to intervene but was also attacked and forced to flee.

The brothers allegedly continued their assault on Sibanda until he lost consciousness, at which point they left him lying on the ground.

Police attended the scene the following day and transported Sibanda and his wife to Gokwe South District Hospital for medical treatment. Sibanda’s condition remains critical.

“Three men have been arrested in connection with an attempted murder which occurred in Gokwe. The three allegedly took turns to assault a couple,” said Inspector Mahoko. The motive for the attack remains undisclosed.

Inspector Mahoko urged members of the public to resolve disputes peacefully and to refrain from resorting to violence. “We urge people to solve their disputes amicably and avoid use of violence,” he said.
