Harare – The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has launched an intensive manhunt for Lloyd Mutsengi, a 50-year-old security guard accused of a brutal rape and murder at a local mine. The incident has sparked outrage and fear, with residents demanding increased security measures at mining operations.

According to initial police reports, the horrifying sequence of events began when Mutsengi arrived for his shift at the mine in a state of intoxication. His fellow workers, deeming him unfit for duty, turned him away.

However, instead of returning home, Mutsengi allegedly stole a shotgun rifle from a colleague, setting the stage for a night of unimaginable terror. He is accused of then confronting two women within the mine compound, threatening them both with rape.

Tragically, one of the women bravely fought back against her attacker, but her resistance came at the ultimate price. Mutsengi allegedly shot her dead on the spot.

The horror did not end there. Mutsengi is further accused of sexually assaulting the second woman before fleeing into the night, armed with the stolen shotgun.

The ZRP has issued a public appeal for assistance in locating the suspect, who remains at large. “This is a disturbing case of extreme violence and sexual abuse,” the police stated on X. “We are appealing to anyone with information on the whereabouts of Lloyd Mutsengi to come forward and report to their nearest police station.”

The incident has left the community reeling, with residents expressing their shock and fear. Many are calling for stricter security protocols and more thorough screening of personnel employed at mines in the area. The fact that a security guard, entrusted with protecting the safety of others, could allegedly commit such heinous acts has deeply shaken public confidence.

The police have urged anyone with information, no matter how insignificant it may seem, to contact their nearest police station immediately. They have assured the public that all information will be treated with the utmost confidentiality.

As the manhunt intensifies, the ZRP has deployed additional resources to the area and is working closely with local communities to gather intelligence and track down the suspect.
