Zimbabwean man (22) brutally kills 2-year-old boy in South Africa over R20 debt: Akacheka mwana huro nebanga

Johannesburg, South Africa – A 22-year-old Zimbabwean man stands accused of the gruesome murder of a two-year-old boy in South Africa, allegedly over a disputed debt of just R20. The incident, which occurred on April 8, has sparked outrage and grief, raising questions about the motive and circumstances surrounding the child’s tragic death.

The deceased, Siyanda Ndlovu (also known as Gwabavu), was laid to rest in South Africa on Sunday amidst palpable tension. According to reports, the accused claimed that the boy’s mother owed him R20 and had been slow to repay the debt. However, those close to the family vehemently dispute these claims, asserting that no such debt existed.

The deceased’s father expressed his frustration at the lack of communication from the investigating officer. “I tried to contact the investigating officer over the issue and he promised to come back to me,” he said, highlighting the family’s desperate need for answers and justice.

Moreboys Munetsi, a close relative of the family, was instrumental in ensuring the funeral proceeded smoothly despite the difficult circumstances. Munetsi, who is also a director for Greathope Funeral Services, confirmed the tragic incident and pledged his support to the family in their pursuit of justice.

“The boy was killed by a Zimbabwean national, and we buried him on Sunday,” Munetsi said. “Seventy percent of his neck was cut, and the accused claimed that he committed the offence since he is owed R20 by the mother of the deceased. Akamuuraya wacho ane 22 years anoti akamuuraya nekuti amai vacho vakamukwereta R20. But the mother denied owing him any money,” he added, relaying the accused’s claim and the mother’s denial.

Greathope Funeral Services offered their services free of charge to support the family during this incredibly difficult time. “It’s a very painful experience to bury a two-year-old child,” Munetsi said, his voice filled with emotion. “The little child couldn’t defend himself, munhu anobatwa nemweya wekucheka huro nebanga.

Munetsi also pledged to provide legal support to the family should they choose to pursue the case further. “No one wants to bury their two-year-old child. She wants justice for her child. If they want legal support, I will be there for them to get justice in the case,” he stated. He also recognised the need for counselling for the grieving mother and family. “I have realised that the family also needs counselling. We have to work to find ways for justice over the issue,” he added.

Munetsi expressed his skepticism regarding the accused’s version of events. “From what we observed, the accused is lying,” he said. “He lied that he killed the deceased over a debt his mother owed him. There are a lot of discrepancies in this case because no pictures were taken from the scene.” Despite the family’s desire for justice, Munetsi emphasised the importance of maintaining peace and love within the community. “We need justice for this case, but after all, we will continue to preach the gospel of peace and love,” he concluded.

The case has sparked debate and speculation, with many questioning whether a mere R20 debt could truly be the motive for such a heinous crime. As investigations continue, the community awaits answers and hopes that justice will be served for young Siyanda Ndlovu.
