BEITBRIDGE – A 41-year-old man from Zezani, Beitbridge, with a history of serious sexual offences, has been sentenced to 18 years in prison for sodomising his girlfriend’s 13-year-old son. The sentence was handed down by the Beitbridge regional magistrate’s court, marking a swift return to incarceration for the unrepentant offender.
The man, whose name is being withheld to protect the identity of the victim, had only recently completed a 15-year jail term for a rape he committed back in 2009.
Beitbridge regional magistrate Ms Charity Maphosa found the man guilty of sodomising the complainant while his two brothers were present. She imposed an effective 18-year prison sentence, taking into account the accused’s previous conviction for a similar crime. In April 2009, he was sentenced to 15 years for rape.
Prosecutor Mr Willbrought Muleya told the court that the accused was in a relationship with the complainant’s mother.
The court heard that on the night of February 26 this year, the man entered a room where the complainant was sleeping with his two brothers. The juvenile was sleeping in between his two brothers.
According to the prosecution, the accused went directly to the complainant, removed his clothes, and proceeded to sodomise him.
The court was told that the boy screamed for help, but the accused covered his mouth with one hand and threatened to kill him if he continued to resist.
After committing the offence, the man fled the scene. The matter only came to light when the other brothers began to taunt the complainant in front of an older sibling, who then investigated the situation.
The complainant eventually disclosed the abuse, and the matter was reported to the police, who promptly arrested the accused.
