GURUVE – The nightmare gripping Guruve has intensified with the brutal murders of a mother and her daughter in Bhosha Village, Magaya area on Monday evening. This latest atrocity deepens the climate of fear already pervasive in the district, which has been plagued by a series of violent killings since October.
The victims, a mother and her Form Three pupil daughter, were the latest to fall prey to the suspected serial killer. Another child miraculously survived the attack by hiding under a bed, escaping the carnage that befell their family.
Inspector Milton Mundembe, the Mashonaland Central provincial police spokesperson, confirmed the tragic incident, stating that investigations are actively underway. He assured the public that further details would be released as soon as they become available.
The prime suspect in these escalating horrors is Anymore Zvitsva, a 32-year-old man also known as Modho. Police believe Zvitsva is operating with a group of accomplices, and they have intensified the manhunt to bring him to justice. Authorities believe Zvitsva may be hiding in the nearby forested and mountainous terrain. The police have stated that they have intensified the search for the suspect with the aid of drone technology and manhunt teams comprising the Support Unit, Criminal Investigations Department, Canine Unit, horse patrols, and intelligence units to conduct close surveillance in the forest and mountains where the suspect is alleged to be hiding.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) are now offering a substantial monetary reward for any information that leads to the arrest of Anymore Zvitsva.
Commissioner Paul Nyathi, the national police spokesperson, made the reward offer public on Friday. “The Zimbabwe Republic Police is offering a substantial monetary reward for anyone with credible information which leads to the location and subsequent arrest of murder suspect, Anymore Zvitsva (32),” he stated.
Commissioner Nyathi further emphasised the commitment to rewarding those who come forward with information, adding, “Anyone who gives the information will certainly be rewarded as pledged by the Commissioner-General of Police, Stephen Mutamba.”
This latest double murder follows a string of horrific incidents that have terrorised the Guruve community. Just last week, on December 18th, an elderly woman, aged 55, and a six-month-old infant were found brutally murdered at Farm 88, Nyakapupu. Commissioner Nyathi confirmed that the victims suffered multiple head injuries. “Meanwhile, the Zimbabwe Republic Police is investigating the brutal murder of an elderly woman (55) and a six-month-old infant at Farm 88, Nyakapupu, Guruve on 18th December 2025. The victims were found with multiple head injuries. More details will be released in due course,” Nyathi said.
Prior to that, on December 11th, Zvitsva is alleged to have committed a particularly gruesome crime at Plot 9, Ona Farm, where five family members were brutally killed. The victims were identified as Grace Zvitsva (66), Loice Chiringaushe (37), Takudzwa Kariva (5), Tatenda Chirenje (2), and Tendai Zvitsva (40).
The horrific discovery at Ona Farm was made after a neighbour, alerted by unusual noises, went to investigate accompanied by two other villagers. Commissioner Nyathi detailed the scene that awaited them: “Upon arrival, the neighbour who was in the company of two villagers observed bloodstains at the kitchen doorstep and found Tendai Zvitsva unconscious and bleeding profusely with deep cuts on the chest. Further inspection revealed extensive bloodstains around the homestead with the bodies of Grace Zvitsva, Loice Chiringaushe, Takudzwa Kariva and Tatenda Chirenje lying in the main bedroom.”
Tendai Zvitsva was rushed to Guruve Hospital but tragically died upon admission due to the severity of his injuries. Amidst the carnage, there was a small glimmer of hope as five other grandchildren of Grace Zvitsva, who had been sleeping in a separate bedroom, were found unharmed. Commissioner Nyathi confirmed this, stating: “The search continued in other rooms leading to the rescue of five of Grace Zvitsva’s grandchildren who had been sleeping in a spare bedroom and were found unharmed.”
Zvitsva is also accused of killing three family members, Pamela Chipangura, Kudzai Chipangura and Tawanda Chipangura from Zimuna Village in Guruve. Pamela Chipangura, 39, was murdered alongside her two children, Kudzai and Tawanda, in Zimuna Village. The circumstances surrounding their deaths are still under investigation, but the police are now treating Anymore Zvitsva as a person of interest in these cases as well. Commissioner Nyathi revealed a disturbing connection: “The suspect is also linked to the recent murder cases in Zimuna Village, Chief Bepura where Pamela Chipangura, Kudzai Chipangura and Tawanda Chipangura were killed in circumstances under probe by the police.”
The wave of night-time attacks has instilled widespread terror, forcing many families to abandon their homesteads and seek safety by sleeping in groups at designated houses.
This latest tragedy has brought the total number of murders in the Guruve area since October to at least 14, according to some reports, though other sources claim the figure is as high as 17. This surge in crime has raised serious questions and concerns.
Amidst the ongoing investigation, Commissioner Nyathi issued a plea to the public, urging vigilance and responsible action regarding individuals with mental health issues. “As investigations into the murder case which occurred at Ona Farm, Guruve, continue, the ZRP urges relatives and members of the community not to ignore mentally challenged patients or individuals showing signs of mental instability within communities,” he said.
He further emphasised the importance of seeking professional help for those in need: “The public is urged to notify the nearest health facility, social welfare office or police station so that the individuals can be referred to qualified professionals for treatment, proper assessment and support.”
