Kadoma – A shocking incident has unfolded in Kadoma Rural, where a 78-year-old man, Benjamin Harry, stands accused of murdering his 30-year-old son, Kudakwashe Harry. The alleged crime occurred on January 6th and has led to the arrest of several individuals, including the deceased’s wife.

Benjamin Harry is alleged to have been caught in flagrante delicto with his son’s wife, Evelyn Mashava, 22. According to initial reports, Kudakwashe arrived home to find his father and wife engaged in an intimate act, sparking a heated confrontation. It is during this altercation that Benjamin allegedly armed himself with an iron bar and struck Kudakwashe, resulting in his immediate death.

In the aftermath of the tragic event, Benjamin Harry, along with Evelyn Mashava, Mike Hwata, 36, William Grasham, 34, Perfect Vembo, 18, Tongai Mavhurume, 18, and a 16-year-old boy, have been taken into custody. All are facing murder charges in connection with Kudakwashe’s death. Notably, Tongai and the minor are brothers of Evelyn Mashava.

Following the alleged murder, it is claimed that Benjamin Harry sought to conceal the crime. He purportedly enlisted the help of Evelyn’s brothers to move Kudakwashe’s body and stage a suicide. The prosecution alleges that the group dangled the body from a tree branch in an attempt to make it appear as though Kudakwashe had taken his own life. It is further alleged that Benjamin offered to compensate Evelyn’s brothers for their assistance by promising to sell one of his cows.

However, conflicting accounts of the events leading up to Kudakwashe’s death have emerged. Another version suggests that Perfect Vembo and William Grasham, both accused in the case, had a prior relationship with Evelyn. On the day of the incident, they allegedly confronted Kudakwashe, and this confrontation is said to have played a role in his death.

Adding another layer to the complex narrative, it has been suggested that Benjamin Harry initially sought assistance from neighbours in hanging the body, further indicating an attempt to disguise the murder as a suicide.

A post-mortem examination conducted on Kudakwashe’s body revealed significant head trauma, consistent with being struck by a blunt object such as an iron bar. This finding corroborates the initial account of the altercation between Benjamin and Kudakwashe.

Furthermore, Evelyn Mashava’s statements to investigators indicate that her brothers were indeed involved in the events. She claims that they were acting to protect her from alleged abuse at the hands of her husband, Kudakwashe. The exact nature and extent of this alleged abuse remain unclear, but it is a key element in understanding the motives and actions of those involved.

The case, filed under Kadoma Rural 27/1/26, has seen all accused individuals remanded in custody. The investigation is ongoing as authorities work to piece together the sequence of events that led to Kudakwashe Harry’s death. The conflicting versions of events presented by the various parties involved highlight the complexities of the case and the challenges faced by investigators in determining the truth. The community awaits further developments as the legal proceedings unfold, shedding light on this disturbing family tragedy.
