Harare – Popular Zimbabwean socialite and actress, Ashley Masendeke, known to her fans as Mai Jeremaya, has found herself at the centre of a social media storm after making a series of candid and controversial revelations during a recent interview with DJ Ollah 7.
The most contentious revelation came when Mai Jeremaya confessed that she was prepared to cheat on her husband with one of the men she accused of rape, had he asked her out before the alleged incident. She explained that she was experiencing marital problems and was lured by the promise of a business contract.
“My marriage was not going so well zvekuti when Thabo sent a message promising a business contract, I was even prepared to date him,” she admitted.
Mai Jeremaya revealed that Thabo was the one who first reached out to her on WhatsApp, pretending to be someone called Sam from Elite Driving School. “Akuna munhu anonzi Sam Trucks. The guy l was talking to anonzi Thabo. He was pretending to be Sam’s Trucks, he was pretending to be Elite Driving School,” she said.
During their interactions, she confided in him about her marital problems. She confessed that, had “Thabo” asked her to date him, she would have agreed. “In my head l was praying and doing these affirmations, ndichingoti eish dai zvaita, you know I have big plans. And to be honest, ndanga ndiripapoint yekuti, of course, I’ve overshared and l have put myself out there and if in any case this Sam wants to date me. l think l am going to.”
This confession has ignited a firestorm on social media, with many Zimbabweans expressing shock and disappointment. Netizens were astounded by her admission and expressed pity for her husband.
Some of the reactions include:
@Memory Maere: “Nhai akoma mai jeremaya, why kudhomoka nhaimi, maputeiko, mamweiko nhai akoma, haaaaayas”

Adding fuel to the fire, Mai Jeremaya also opened up about losing her virginity during her first year at Midlands State University (MSU). She revealed that neither she nor her partner realised it had happened at the time. “I was in first year, second semester. I don’t think I should mention the guy, but we both didn’t know it happened. It was difficult to know. Ndakatozoziva kuti virgnity yangu yazobrekeka after months and months of trying,” she said.
She also spoke candidly about becoming a mother at a young age, admitting that she regrets making that decision. “I regret making decisions of making babies at that very young age because isu ndisu generation ye Westlife,” she said.
Mai Jeremaya’s revelations come after Harare magistrate Letwin Rwodzi freed Thabo Blessing Dube and Martin Charlie, who were accused of gang-raping the socialite at a lodge in Harare’s Eastlea suburb. The two men initially contacted her, claiming to be representatives from Elite Driving School, seeking her expertise in advertising. Mai Jeremaya has maintained that she stands by her truth, despite the court’s decision.
“In trying to prove its case, the State led evidence from Cynthia Duringo and Asley Masendeke (Mai Jeremays’s real name) and three statements authored by Masendeke were produced as well as a medical affidavit. The two accused persons outrightly denied any wrongdoing and common cause facts are that Martin Charlie had sex with Masendeke,” Magistrate Rwodzi said.
She highlighted that Mai Jeremaya had been communicating with Dube for over two months, was desperate for money, and was experiencing marital problems, which she shared with Dube. The magistrate also noted that Mai Jeremaya accepted US$20 and an InDrive ride home and did not intend to report the incident to her husband or the police. The report was made by her friend without her consent.
The case continues to generate significant public interest, raising questions about consent, marital fidelity, and the role of social media in shaping public perception. Mai Jeremaya’s willingness to share such personal details has undoubtedly stirred controversy, leaving many to question her motives and the impact of her revelations on her family and career.
