TWO SOLDIERS from the Zimbabwe National Army have found themselves in hot water after being arrested and charged with kidnapping two police constables who were simply doing their job cracking down on pirate taxis. It was meant to be a routine operation for the police officers, but things quickly spiralled out of control.

According to reports, the soldiers were touting for passengers in a non-passenger service vehicle when they were caught by Constables Lazarus Chapendama and Milton Magaiza. The police officers instructed the soldiers to drive to the local police station, but one of the soldiers apparently had other plans. He allegedly drove to Josiah Tongogara Barracks instead, prompting a ZNA colonel to order the soldiers to accompany the police officers to Avondale Police Station where they were subsequently arrested and charged.

Despite the soldiers’ attempts to dodge the law by kidnapping the police constables, their plan backfired spectacularly. The two members of the Zimbabwe National Army now find themselves detained at Avondale Police Station under case number RRB 5523652, facing charges related to the alleged kidnapping during an incident that began with a simple pirate taxi crackdown. A dramatic reminder that even soldiers are not above the law.soldiers
