All the big guns have submitted their papers and are set to battle it out in Zimbabwe’s high-stakes elections. President Emmerson Mnangagwa, Nelson Chamisa and Douglas Mwonzora have put their names forward for the country’s top job.

The Nomination Court convenes today to approve or reject candidates for president, parliament and local councils. ZEC says it’s ready and has corrected anomalies found during voter inspection.

ZEC Chief Utoile Silaigwana says “We are set for tomorrow(today), the voters roll is ready…You can file papers before Nomination Court sits but only after will we officially announce candidates.”

Justice Minister Ziyambi Ziyambi confirmed ED’s nomination saying “We sent his papers…We await the opening of the Nomination Court.”

Chamisa and Mwonzora also submitted their candidacies.

ZEC Vice Chair Rodney Kiwa vows a free and fair election, urging “Everyone – parties, candidates, security forces, media, CSOs – must play their part for peaceful polls.”

As the Nomination Court sits, Zimbabwe holds its breath, with excitement building for the high-stakes elections just around the corner on August 23!
