Woman seeks protection after “hot porridge attack” by husband
A Harare woman is counting her blessings to have escaped with her life after a disturbing domestic dispute turned violent. Rejoice Ngwena testified in court that her husband Henry left her scarred with burns all over her body after an altercation that saw him pour a pot of hot porridge over her.
Appearing before magistrate Tamara Chibindi, the visibly distraught wife recounted how a minor argument with her spouse rapidly escalated out of control. “I did not know that it would go as far as him pouring hot porridge on me leaving me with these scalds,” Ngwena said.
Ngwena told Chibindi on that she was living in fear.
However, Henry attempted to downplay his actions in court, claiming the incident was accidental and an act of self-defence against his wife brandishing a cooking spoon.
Magistrate Chibidi granted Ngwena the protection order.
