A tragic road accident along the Harare-Mukumbura highway has left one person dead and 15 others injured, the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has reported.

The incident occurred on May 11th at the 23 km marker, when an AVM DAF bus carrying 68 passengers swerved suddenly to the left side of the road. In the process, the bus struck a pedestrian before crashing into a tree, causing the vehicle to overturn and land on its right side.

The pedestrian sustained critical head injuries in the collision and was rushed to Concession Hospital, where he tragically succumbed to his wounds upon arrival. His body has been taken to the hospital mortuary pending a post-mortem examination.

Meanwhile, the 15 injured passengers were transported to both Bindura Hospital and Concession Hospital for medical treatment.

This latest tragedy on Zimbabwe’s roads underscores the need for continued efforts to improve infrastructure, driver training and road safety awareness in order to prevent such devastating incidents from occurring. The loss of life and anguish caused by accidents of this nature is a somber reminder of the importance of prioritizing highway safety.

As the affected families grapple with the aftermath of this fatal crash, the nation extends its deepest condolences while wishing a full and speedy recovery to those injured.
