In a disturbing turn of events, a 28-year-old man from Chegutu has been arraigned before the local magistrate’s court, facing a heinous rape charge. The incident, which has sent shockwaves through the community, occurred on the evening of May 12th, 2024.
According to the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe, the accused, who was reportedly intoxicated at the time, encountered the 15-year-old complainant as she was making her way home from the shops. The two walked together, with the young woman offering to help the man carry his plastic bag. However, the situation quickly took a dark turn when the accused allegedly propositioned the complainant for ƨǝxual intercourse. When she refused, the man is said to have tripped the young woman and dragged her into the nearby grass, where he proceeded to rape her.
The accused is further accused of threatening to take the complainant’s life if she dared to tell anyone about the horrific ordeal. Traumatized, the young woman returned home and confided in her mother, who promptly reported the matter to the authorities. This swift action led to the arrest of the alleged perpetrator.
