Harrowing abuse uncovered as Zaka man sentenced for assaulting 8-year-old daughter

In a heart-wrenching case that has shocked the community, a 65-year-old man from Chief Ndanga’s area in Zaka has been brought before the Chiredzi Magistrates’ Court and sentenced for the horrific ƨǝxual assault of his own 8-year-old daughter.

The court heard that the incident occurred back in 2018, when the accused man crept into his young daughter’s bedroom during the night. The child was awakened by her father’s actions as he touched her inappropriately. When she asked him what he was doing, the man is said to have ordered the child to remain silent.

The heart-wrenching details only grow more disturbing from there. According to the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe, the 65-year-old then proceeded to pull down the young girl’s skirt and underwear before ƨǝxually assaulting her by inserting his finger into her intimate areas without her consent. He then left the room, leaving his traumatized daughter behind.

It would take several more years before justice finally caught up with the accused. Police received a tip-off about the heinous crime on January 11th, 2024, prompting them to apprehend the man and bring him to trial.

In the end, the Chiredzi Magistrates’ Court sentenced the 65-year-old to a total of 12 years in prison, with 6 years of the sentence suspended.

This case serves as a harrowing reminder of the urgent need to protect the most vulnerable members of our society. As the community of Zaka comes to terms with this disturbing revelation, it is hoped that this sentence will send a clear message that such abhorrent crimes will not be tolerated.

Though the road to healing will undoubtedly be long and arduous, the persistence of law enforcement in pursuing justice in this matter offers a glimmer of hope that the proverbial long arm of the law can, indeed, catch up with even the most heinous offenders.
