A family dispute has taken a dramatic turn as 22-year-old Edwin Mahere accuses his older brother, Ezra Mahere Chamboko, 48, of luring away his wife, Tanaka Mtenheri, 22, and renting a house for her. The scandal has left the family in turmoil, with Tanaka reportedly abandoning her two children, aged five and one year and seven months, to live separately.
Ezra, however, has vehemently denied the allegations, claiming he intervened to protect Tanaka from Edwin’s alleged abuse and neglect. “My younger brother married a woman of loose morals, to be honest,” Ezra told H-Metro. “I never dated her as alleged. My younger brother had been abusing his wife for some time, and he was failing to buy even her undergarments.”
Allegations of Abuse and Neglect
Ezra explained that he decided to step in after learning that Edwin was physically abusive and failing to provide for his family. “The two were always quarrelling, and Tanaka reported the abuse to the police, but I intervened to save Edwin from going into the police cells,” he said.
He further claimed that Edwin’s drug abuse and late-night habits prompted him to take Tanaka into his home temporarily. However, this decision led to tension with his own wife, who suspected foul play. “My wife suspected something fishy, and we clashed about it,” Ezra admitted.
A House of Strife
Ezra said the situation escalated when his wife left to attend a funeral. Neighbours began accusing him of having an affair with Tanaka, and his children reported that she was receiving money from him. “The money was meant for their upkeep since my wife was away,” he clarified.
To avoid further conflict, Ezra decided to rent a separate house for Tanaka. However, he claims that Tanaka later disappeared with his 22-year-old daughter, and the two are now missing. “Tanaka has been going out to nightclubs together with my daughter. Edwin will surely pay for these allegations,” Ezra said.
Edwin’s Side of the Story
Edwin, however, paints a different picture, describing his brother as a “cruel man” who has betrayed him. “Mukoma wangu akudya zvevapfupi nekureba,” Edwin said, accusing Ezra of taking advantage of his vulnerability. “He took my wife and rented a house for her. My children are suffering at the hands of my mother when their mother is enjoying life with my brother.”
Edwin also accused Ezra of flaunting his status as a security agent to intimidate him. “He brags that he works as a security agent. It is unfair,” Edwin lamented.
A Web of Accusations
Tanaka could not be reached for comment, as her phone remains in Ezra’s possession.
A Family Divided
The feud has left the Mahere family deeply divided. Ezra maintains that his actions were motivated by a desire to protect Tanaka and her children from Edwin’s alleged abuse and neglect. “We share the same father with Edwin. I am the one who took them from a farm, but today he is accusing me of bedding his wife,” Ezra said.
Edwin, on the other hand, feels betrayed and abandoned, with his children suffering in the absence of their mother.
