Happson Dina, the headmaster of Fashu High School in Bikita, finds himself at the centre of a scandalous storm following allegations of an affair with a subordinate, Amina Debora Dzoro, a single female member of staff. The accusations have ignited fury amongst parents and raised serious questions about the school’s leadership and integrity.
According to reports, the startled couple unlocked the car amidst a commotion. In the ensuing chaos, the child Dina’s wife was carrying fell to the ground. Dzoro allegedly reacted by grabbing and biting the child on three fingers, causing injury. Dina then allegedly restrained his wife by the neck and threatened to kill her.
The wife’s cries for help attracted the attention of people nearby, prompting Dzoro to flee the scene. Dina then reportedly turned his attention to a security guard who had arrived, accusing him of interfering in his personal affairs and summarily dismissing him from his post. It is further alleged that Dina assaulted his wife again at Mangondo Turn-Off, leading to the matter being reported to the police at Bikita Minerals Base.
Dina’s wife has since sought legal recourse, filing a protection order (GTPR72/25) against him at Gutu Magistrate Court, which was granted on June 16, 2025.
When contacted for comment, Dina claimed to be unaware of the incident and directed all inquiries to the District Schools Inspector (DSI). “I am not aware of the matter; after all, I am not allowed to talk to the media. Talk to the DSI,” said Dina.
Dzoro, when initially contacted, dismissed the call as a “wrong number.” Upon being called again, she said, “let me give you someone you can talk to. Are you sure you called the right number?” She subsequently called back, warning this reporter to seek permission from her lawyer before publishing the story, or face legal action.
The scandal has ignited outrage among parents, who accuse Dina of misusing school vehicles for personal affairs, often travelling with Dzoro to lodges. They allege that the school’s Nissan Note, which is not branded, is frequently used for private errands.
Parents claim that the scandal is tarnishing the school’s reputation, contributing to falling pass rates and increasing pupil indiscipline. They further allege that Dzoro has effectively become the de facto head, running the school, bullying other teachers, and controlling the Wi-Fi password, denying access to colleagues.
When asked about the unbranded school vehicle, the School Development Committee (SDC) chairperson, Chasara Chimombe, said they are awaiting a consultation with the parents before branding the vehicle. “We bought the vehicle last month, so we are waiting for a meeting to tell the parents that we want to brand the vehicle. As for the story that the head was caught having sex in the vehicle, I cannot comment because I am yet to hear about it,” said Chimombe.
Several efforts to get a comment from DSI James Mahofa were unsuccessful, as his mobile phone went unanswered.
The allegations against Dina have raised serious questions about his suitability to lead Fashu High School and the impact of his alleged actions on the school’s environment and pupil’s education. The unfolding scandal is likely to place significant pressure on the Ministry of Education to investigate the matter thoroughly and take appropriate action to restore confidence in the school’s leadership.
