The Zimbabwe Banks and Allied Workers Union ZIBAWU has attacked Econet Founder Strive Masiyiwa after his Higher Life Foundation offered striking doctors a ZWL5000 incentive to resume work.
Whilst many Zimbabweans celebrated the intervention by one of Zimbabwe’s richest men, The Bankers Union, however, has thrown shade accusing Masiyiwa of double standards and underpaying his workers.
ZIBAWU went on to reveal how workers at Steward bank, a subsidiary of Cassava smartech and part of the Econet Group are incapacitated and are failing to make ends meet. Taking to Social Media, The Bankers Union shared the below tweet on their official Twitter Handle.
“His workers @stewardbank are incapacitated & he has not offered anything. He is trying to use doctors’ struggle & suffering for his egoistic PR drive. Doctors are workers and if he feels for workers let him show that.”
Zimbabwe is currently in an economic meltdown, characterised by high inflation and the majority of the population are impoverished. Salaries are stagnated whilst the cost of living continues shooting up resulting in worker incapacitation.
Bank workers have not been spared despite handling the bulk of the nation’s money. Recently ZIBAWU staged a demo at the National Building Society offices where bank workers were sleeping outside citing incapacitation and having no bus fare to return home.
