A Zanu PF supporter lost his life in a tragic bus accident yesterday along the Bulawayo-Victoria Falls highway. The accident occurred when a ZUPCO bus carrying Zanu PF supporters to a campaign rally in Nkayi hit an open manhole and overturned.
According to Richard Moyo, Matabeleland North provincial chairperson of Zanu PF, one person was trapped under the bus and died while several others sustained injuries. The injured were rushed to hospital and some were later discharged after being checked.
The accident happened around 5km from Lupane town. Inspector Glory Banda, Matabeleland North police spokesperson, said they are yet to receive an accident report.
The accident comes as Zanu PF ramps up campaign activities ahead of the crucial 2023 elections. The identity of the deceased has not yet been revealed and police investigations are ongoing to establish the exact circumstances surrounding the accident.
