Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) spokesman Promise Mkwananzi has left the country after the police offered a reward for information leading to his arrest. The police stated that Mkwananzi had two outstanding arrest warrants related to public order offenses allegedly committed in 2020. Additionally, the police identified Clayd Mashozhera and Noel Munhuweyi as wanted suspects in an assault and malicious damage to property case, where a vehicle was set on fire in Sunningdale on August 23.

According to reports, Mkwananzi’s departure came shortly after plainclothes police officers disrupted his press conference on August 26, seizing his speech. The press conference was held in the wake of disputed elections that took place on August 23. The police explained their actions by stating that they intended to arrest Mkwananzi based on the outstanding warrants.

In a statement released on Thursday, Mkwananzi expressed that he had left the country due to ongoing efforts to detain him without any valid charges, other than his vocal opposition to the alleged fraudulent election. He affirmed his commitment to continue working towards change from his new location until the Zimbabwean crisis is resolved, emphasizing that he has no pending cases with the police and had previously been cleared of the charges against him.

Mkwananzi’s departure has created a vacancy in his role as CCC spokesman, potentially leading CCC leader Nelson Chamisa to appoint a new party representative. Mkwananzi had recently taken over the position from Fadzai Mahere, who is now serving as the Member of Parliament for Mount Pleasant.
