A deadly car accident and the grim discovery of a man’s body left residents of two Midlands province towns shaken over the weekend.

Police say a Honda Fit violently crashed along the Tongogara-Chachacha Road in Shurugwi on Saturday afternoon, leaving the driver dead at the scene and injuring four passengers. According to police spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko, the driver failed to navigate a curve in the road, causing the car to roll multiple times. The driver’s body was taken to Shurugwi District Hospital.

Separately, the body of an unidentified man was found along the Gweru-Silobela Road on Friday evening. A passerby stumbled upon the gruesome scene. Inspector Mahoko said the lifeless body showed signs of violence, with blood coming from the ears and nose as well as bruises all over. Police suspect foul play and are appealing to the public for information that could identify the deceased or clarify what happened.

The unrelated but similarly tragic incidents left citizens in the towns of Shurugwi and Gweru wondering how an ordinary weekend could turn so deadly. Police are investigating the cause of the fatal crash while also seeking answers in the suspicious death discovered along the highway.
