A SUSPECTED poacher identified as Kudakwashe Masanzu was fatally attacked by a crocodile while fleeing from game rangers in Save River.

Masanzu had gone hunting with two friends in Save Conservancy when they were intercepted by rangers. The men jumped into the river to escape, but Masanzu was attacked and killed by a crocodile. Only his clothes and intestines were later recovered.

In a separate incident, Munorweyi Nyamunda met the same fate while fishing in Save River near Birchenough Bridge last Saturday. The crocodiles responsible for the attacks were killed to retrieve the victims’ bodies.

Meanwhile in the Marange area of Mutare district, stray buffalo from Save Valley Conservancy were spotted roaming the Chipindirwe village. Villagers were warned to be cautious as the buffalo could be dangerous if intercepted. Zimparks rangers and council officials were deployed to contain the situation and track the buffalo.
